The Villa Paulick

The magnificent summer villa in the style of historicism was built in 1877 by the architects Friedrich König and Rudolf Feldscharek by order of Friedrich Georg Paulick. For the construction, the owner, who was appointed k. k. court master carpenter in 1873, used almost only building and equipment parts manufactured in his own company. The self-confident owner had himself immortalized inside the building in a bronze relief. Monograms, aphorisms and, above all, the representative arts and crafts interior decoration reinforce this self-portrayal. The coffered ceiling in the salon was transferred from the Vienna World's Fair pavilion to the villa at Attersee, and a "house god" made of soapstone by Richard Teschner watches over the summer guests to this day.

The villa established itself as a social meeting place for numerous artists and intellectuals, including Peter Altenberg, Otto Prutscher and Carl Moll, among others. The guest book, which is still in private hands today, provides an insight into the artistic atmosphere of the time and documents the "who's who" of Villa Paulick. Gustav Klimt also immortalized himself in it during the first year of his stay. From then on, this jewel of a villa was to become one of the most important meeting places for the Art Nouveau painter.
